Wang Chun Feng   Hoping for Love

Melody
- Sung by Shuyu Liu

Shen ye yue xia shou chuang chyan
Chun feng zhenzhen chui.
Shuangshi nyan hua dai shengui
Deng lang qiao xianghui.
Wangchuan qiushui lang wei gui,
Yiren hechu zhui
Hechu qu xun yizhong ren,
Chun lai geng shangbei.

Chun feng chui lai bai hua kai,
Hudie qi fei lai.
Shuangshuang duidui duo zizai,
Tong ba huaer cai.
Xiaomei yue xia du paihui,
Dui yue kong dengdai,
Wo pan qinglang, lang bu lai,
Kong ba xiangsi hai.

Tr. Ed Peaslee 1999
On a moonlit night by the window she stands,
The spring wind blows fitfully
Twenty years, she stays at home
Waiting a chance meeting.
Anxiously she waits, but he does not come
Where can she find him?
Where can she find her ideal mate?
Spring adds to her pain.

The spring wind blows and a hundred flowers bloom
At once the butterflies arrive.
Happily they fly in pairs,
Seeking flowers together.
Under the moon she paces back and forth,
Waiting all in vain,
Waiting a lover who does not come
Yearning unfulfilled.

This is a very old Taiwanese song, but one which is universally known. The words vary, but the melody is always the same.
